Chinese New Years

Year of the Wooden Horse: Chinese New Years 2014!

The Chinese zodiac is a 12-year cycle with each of the years being named after an animal. 2014 will be the year of the Horse. It is said that this year is considered one of the best years for the Chinese. With the Horse symbolizing travel, they believe that those who wish to achieve success will reach their goals right away.

If you are born in the year of the Horse (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014) it is said that you are very intelligent, ambitious, very hardworking and independent. You have the ability to multitask, and you tend to fall in love easily.

Your lucky colour is GREEN and your lucky numbers are considered to be 3,4 & 9. Your lucky flowers are the Giant Taro and Jasmine.

Some Chinese New Years traditions are:

-Decorate your house to welcome the New Year, red being considered a very lucky colour as it scares away evil spirits and bad fortune.
- Place mandarins in bowls around your house, they are seen as the fruit of happiness.
- Refrain from using bad words such as ‘death,’ ‘broken,’ ‘illness,’ and ‘killing’ during New Years as this may bring you bad luck for the year to come.
- Make sure the barrel of rice is full, ensuring prosperity in the New Year.
