New Years Eve in Toronto

We're back at beautiful Nathan Phillip' Square - the iconic Toronto City Hall - to help City TV welcome in another new year. This is one of the highlights of the year... a big crowd counting down the last seconds of the year, and cheering and screaming as we shoot the first fireworks of 2011.

You can think of us if you're watching on TV - dress warm if you choose to come on down.

Here's a video clip of last year.

November 21 - Take Two

Later the same day, in the first deep freeze of the year, with a crazy wind coming in off the lake, we were down at BMO Field for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Major League Soccer Championship game.

Beautiful Red and White Flares - custom made for us by the good folks at DMD Systems - formed a perimeter behind the players as strains of "Oh Canada" filled the night air. With the crowd cheering, we sent Comets and Mines screaming hundreds of feet into the air.

The game was a nail-biter. Dallas led 1-0 until the final minutes of the game when Colorado tied it all up. Colorado went on to win 2-1 in overtime. Mere minutes later we were shooting confetti at the 2010 Champions.

November 21 - Take One

Well...... we were back at the ACC in the early afternoon.... with tanks of CO2 standing by at each net. Lights - Video - GO RAPTORS!!!!!!!!!!

Right in between the Video and the Home Team - we shot beautiful plumes of crisp, cold Liquid CO2 high into the air above the net. Now we don't want to take too much credit - but our team did win that one!!

           GO Raptors GO!!!!!!!!!!

Back at the ACC

On Sunday November 21 at 1 PM,  we'll be courtside at the ACC with a brand new trick to open the Raptors - Celtics game.

We have a long history with the Raptors. We've shot Pyro and Flame behind the nets, off the clock, at centre court and under the mascot... and Confetti from the catwalks and the clock. (check out the pics)

This season we'll be shooting some awesome............

.............oops, almost let that one out of the bag - looks like you'll have to get yourself down to the game.... or stayed tuned here.

AirMagic's Confetti - So You Think You Can Dance Canada Finale

Think Pink!!

As the sun warmed the eastern sky, I was climbing into the bowels of Dundas Square to turn the fountains Pink for Victoria Secret. This project, like so many others, started in June with an email and a question ..... "Can you"  .......turn a water fountain Pink?"  And like so many other projects, our response is to say "Yes" and then figure it out.

This is our first fountain colouring job, the first of many we hope. We're looking forward to the phone calls for St. Patrick's Day and Valentines Day,  and of course, the big one...... Yes, the call to turn every fountain in Toronto into a sea of Blue when the Leafs win the Stanley Cup!

Did I mention that I'm an optimist?

Thank you TFC!!

Last week brought the fourth season of the Toronto FC to a close. Our association with this team goes right back to the naming announcement at Rico Coleseum.  In the brief history of this magnificent team, we've shot Pyro, Smoke, and hundreds of pounds of Confetti to celebrate the introduction of the players, the goals and winning games.

Exhibition Place, the CNE grounds of my childhood, has been a magical place for as long as I can remember. BMO field, with the fans screaming, the drums beating, the home team moving the ball,  and the breeze off the lake behind us, has been one more magical chapter.

TFC Naming Announcement

We send our best wishes to the Toronto FC... players, game day staff and management... and look forward to new beginnings in 2011!

From coast to coast

This past Wednesday -  October 13 - the night skies of Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver were each illuminated with 60 seconds of flash and sparkle for a series of coast to coast celebrations linked by satellite. Our team was on the roof of the Kool Haus on Queens Quay in Toronto, with a breath-taking view of the city to the west of us. When our turn came we shot Silver and Yellow (our client's corporate colours) Comets, Mines and Skybursts up to 300 feet into the night sky, using a selection of Close Proximity Pyrotechnics. These precise products allow us to create an Aerial Display within the tight confines of an urban setting.

AirMagic helps launch the new Sony Centre

In 1970 I first stepped foot onto the stage of the O'Keefe Centre. It was the biggest room I had ever seen. Since then it has been my pleasure to add sizzle to Operas, Ballets, Concerts and Corporate  Events on that stage. In 1996 we helped launch the newly renamed Hummingbird Centre, and now, after a two year renovation, on the 50th anniversary of the original opening night of the O'Keefe, we were back at One Front St. E., now The Sony Centre,  with 1000 pounds of propane and the flames of 19 custom-made braziers to outline the magnificently restored marquee and once again welcome an opening  night audience to this iconic venue.
