World Theatre Day 2014
AirMagic salutes World Theatre Day!
The International Theatre Institute initiated World Theatre
Day in 1961. Celebrated annually on the 27th of March, many
international and national theatre events are organized around this occasion. Each year an outstanding individual in theatre
or another cultural field shares his/her reflection on the arts and international
peace and harmony. The message is shared in more than 20 languages, printed in
hundreds of newspapers and read aloud and shared to communities all over the
globe.
The 2014 World
Theatre Day Message is given by Brett Bailey. Bailey is a South African
playwright, designer, director and more. His work has been recognized worldwide
and has won numerous awards including a gold medal for design at the Prague
Quadrennial in 2007. Click here to read The 2014 World Theatre Day Message.

Clara's Big Ride Heats Up
On March 14th, six time Canadian
Olympian, Clara Hughes will embark on a 12,000 km bike ride across Canada, from
Toronto all the way to Ottawa. The event is called "Clara's Big Ride" and will take approximately 100 days to complete. As the National spokesperson for Bell Canada’s
campaign “Bell Lets Talk,” she helps raise awareness and stops the stigma that
is associated with mental illness. Battling with depression her self, this is
something that she is strongly passionate about.
Last night AirMagic worked at The Sound Academy for the launch party of Clara’s Big Ride. The event was to celebrate
with Clara before she embarks on the ride of her life. The party included a
performance by Hedley, delicious Canadian cuisine, and a beautifully heated patio by none
other than AirMagic. Large flamed cauldrons guided the way into the event, while
the patio was filled with warmth and light by spectacular fire pits and propane heaters.
These images show the large flame cauldrons in day and night. These cauldrons, or "flame bowls" work with continuous operation propane fuel and are 100% flame safe. They have a continuous pilot light inside, so if the pilot light goes off the whole device will shut down.
With the city skyline blazing in the back, these fire pits and propane heaters supplied a cozy atmosphere for party goers. Both are easy to use and can run continuously up to six hours. There is nothing more eye catching and mesmerizing than a dramatic flame to highlight an event.
We wish Clara Hughes the best of luck on her journey across
Canada and look forward to following her progress along the way.

Canadian Victory
Many Canadians were waking up much earlier than usual Sunday February 23rd. Due to the time difference between here and Sochi, Russia the Men’s
Gold Medal Hockey game aired in Toronto at 7am. Amazing enough the bars opened
at 6am, inviting fans in for breakfast and beers to cheer on Team Canada.
AirMagic Special Effects supplied streamers to Real Sports Bar, Canada’s
largest sports bar. The streamers were shot at the final second of the game,
into a crowd of 1000 screaming fans, including Mayor Ford.
The win was sealed with Chris Kunitz scoring the final goal,
finishing the game with a 3-0 victory against Sweden. Many are saying the men’s
game was not as intense as the women’s game, but there is no doubt that it was a
nail biting, suspenseful game time for all Canadians.
The women played February 21st against Team USA.
The intense game ended with Marie-Phillip Poulin scoring the winning goal in
overtime, Canada winning 3-2. With hockey being called “Canada’s game,” it was
no surprise to see how much we were all looking forward to the championship
games.
Torontonians continued to celebrate the win throughout the
day, travelling up to Yonge and Dundas Square, where they proudly sang the national
anthem.
With the Sochi Olympic Games officially coming to a close
Sunday February 23rd, we can look back and feel a great sense of
patriotic pride for all our Canadian athletes. Canada finished third overall,
collecting 10 gold, 10 silver, and 5 bronze medals, totaling 25.
The opening and closing ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics are
quite possibly the largest and most memorable performance to date at the
Olympic games. From glowing aerial dancers, to “doves”, to Russian ballet,
Sochi did not disappoint.
Over 22 tons of fireworks were launched during the
Opening Ceremony.

War Horse Continues To Amaze
With over 4.7
million viewers worldwide, War Horse continues to amaze. Late last year the Berlin
production opened, using the German title Gefährten. At the same time the UK
Tour opened, selling out every seat.
The production quickly became the highest grossing production in the
Festival Theatre’s 20-year history. The production passed its 2000th
performance at the New London Theatre, where it continues to run.
AirMagic was in Ottawa last month where we supplied and
wrangled the firearms for the U.S. Tour that came to The National Arts Centre.
If you have not had the opportunity to check out this award
winning show be sure to check it out.

Labatt Brewing Company
This week we had the pleasure of working with Labatt, at their
annual sales meeting in the Canadian Ballroom at The Royal York Hotel. The
company was founded in 1847 in London, Ontario and is now Canada’s largest
brewery. Their brands include Budweiser, Bud Light, Alexander Keith’s, and
Stella Artois.
Labatt took this opportunity to showcase their new
products and strategies. To give the audience a taste of one of their new
products we not only made it snow in the middle of the Canadian Ballroom, but
with our giant air movers we shot billowing clouds of ice cold CO2 to chill the
air.
Later that evening Labatt’s held an unforgettable party at
the Sound Academy. The Dwayne Gretzky Cover Band rocked. Pyrotechnics shot into
the air keeping the guests dancing the night away and sampling Labatt’s award
winning products. The DJ used our CO2 and confetti while spinning long into the
night.
Are you holding a corporate event soon and are looking for a
way to make it as memorable as this one? Give us a call at 416-703-0425, come
by our Retail/Rental store at 30 Dorchester Ave, Toronto, or check out our
website and see what we have to offer! www.airmagicfx.com

Chinese New Years
Year of the Wooden Horse: Chinese New Years 2014!
The Chinese zodiac is a 12-year cycle with each of the years being named after an animal. 2014 will be the year of the Horse. It is said that this year is considered one of the best years for the Chinese. With the Horse symbolizing travel, they believe that those who wish to achieve success will reach their goals right away.
If you are born in the year of the Horse (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014) it is said that you are very intelligent, ambitious, very hardworking and independent. You have the ability to multitask, and you tend to fall in love easily.
Your lucky colour is GREEN and your lucky numbers are considered to be 3,4 & 9. Your lucky flowers are the Giant Taro and Jasmine.
Some Chinese New Years traditions are:
-Decorate your house to welcome the New Year, red being considered a very lucky colour as it scares away evil spirits and bad fortune.
- Place mandarins in bowls around your house, they are seen as the fruit of happiness.
- Refrain from using bad words such as ‘death,’ ‘broken,’ ‘illness,’ and ‘killing’ during New Years as this may bring you bad luck for the year to come.
- Make sure the barrel of rice is full, ensuring prosperity in the New Year.
New Years is held on Friday, January 31st. What are you plans? Are you in need of Fireworks? Confetti? Streamers? Sparklers? Come by our shop and check out what we have to make your night unforgettable!
Happy Chinese New Years from everyone at AirMagic!
